Hi everyone! My name is Eliza Pillsbury. I’m from Houston, Texas, but I will be moving to Austin in the fall to study Journalism and Plan II Liberal Arts Honors at the University of Texas. HOOK ’EM HORNS! I went to an arts magnet high school, so I studied theatre for three hours everyday. I know I don’t want to pursue theatre academically anymore (I am a little burnt out), but I definitely still want to consume and create theatre in college. My dream job would be a travel journalist, but I am keeping my mind open. I chose journalism because it seemed an obvious intersection of my two callings: to tell stories and to make a difference. In my free time, I’m probably at a coffee shop or with my cat. Can’t wait to get to know y’all over the next four years!

My name’s Carter. I was born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, before I relocated to Portugal at the age of twelve. I lived there for a short while before we moved under the tyrannical rule of the Walt Disney Corporation in Orlando, Florida. I’m planning to study Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech, and I’m hoping all those Netflix binge sessions will come in handy. I’m a big comic fan, and following on from I’m a film/TV buff in general. I enjoy a multitude of PC Games, and I love prop-making and hands-on design in my free time, something I hope to continue at Georgia Tech. I’m an aspiring writer which led to a somewhat recent passion with Dungeons and Dragons, Call of Cthulhu, and other table-top RPGs. Anything from chess and go to Ultimate Frisbee and Spikeball; I’m always down to hang out with classmates and fellow scholars and having a good time. I’ve been told I’m quite talkative. And like to pretend I’m good at Smash Brothers, but I usually just gimp kill as Ridley.

I look forward to getting to you all individually!

I atteneded Washington-Lee High School and next year I will be attending Georgia Tech and (currently) studying Computer Science, although that may change. I graduated HS last year and took a gap year this year during which I traveled around the US and the world, worked for a startup doing software development, and coached youth basketball teams. Not sure if I’ll stick with CompSci or not, but I want to get an undergrad degree in some STEM-related field, then get an MBA and hopefully start a company one day. My favorite activity is playing basketball, and I’m hoping to walk-on the GT Men’s Basketball team. If not, I plan on being actively involved in other various campus activities. Look forward to meeting all of you guys and congrats to everyone for being awesome!!!

Hey! I’m Jackson Martingayle. I am from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and I will attend LSU in the fall to study natural resource ecology and management. I am interested in then going to law school to somehow combine the two academic experiences, whether it be through bringing environmental litigation (maybe get some corporate accountability), formulating policy to be enacted into law, or lobbying for an environmental advocacy organization. I enjoy riding my beach cruiser along the boardwalk in the summer (with a slurpee, of course), running on the beach or in the state park, and lifeguarding at the ocean. I currently go to Princess Anne High School as an IB and AP student (almost done with the mountain of exams :)). There, I am the captain of the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track teams, was co-president of Earth Club, NHS member, Young Democrats member, and delegate to VA Boys State. I am excited to meet other Stamps Scholars not just at LSU but also at other universities to hear their unique perspective on present societal dilemmas based on their differing backgrounds. I am super excited to attend LSU in the fall to expand upon my academic and running careers.

Hey guys! My name is Marrissa Rawls, and I’m from Houston, Texas. I attended Bellaire Senior High School, and now I will be attending the University of Texas of Austin as a Nursing and Biology major. In the end, I have plans to go to medical school to become an anesthesiologist or OBGYN, however I really want to further my knowledge in medical policy to help address public health concerns, such as the rapidly growing mortality rate of African-American women in the hands of medical professionals. In high school I was a captain and choreographer of our dance company. Some of my hobbies include listening to music, watching youtube videos, and playing video games. Did I mention I am an avid Marvel and smoothie connoisseur? Probably not. I hope to meet you all!

Hello everybody! My name is Sydney Stine, and I am from Allentown, Pennsylvania. I went to high school at Southern Lehigh, and I will be attending the University of Pittsburgh this fall with a major in Psychology, a possible minor in Administration of Justice or Legal Studies, and on a track to pursue a certificate in either National Security or Global Studies! I plan on pursuing a career in criminal investigation with the ultimate goal to be a special agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I am beyond grateful for this scholarship, and I cannot wait for the experiences and amazing opportunities it has to offer! Some things about me are that I love watching Netflix shows like Greys Anatomy, New Girl, Friends, and Criminal Minds, I am involved in varsity and tournament softball, and I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, as well as going to the beach. I am most excited to study abroad at Pitt, and I am also looking forward to participating in community service through PittServes!

I’m super excited for college and everything it has to offer, and feel so blessed with the Stamps program, because I know it will allow me to travel!! If you read this far, go you, have a great day!

Hello everyone! My name is Madeleine Dotson. I’m from Spanish Fort, Alabama, a smaller town on the Gulf Coast, but I’ve been spending the past few years in Mobile, AL at a boarding school, the Alabama School of Math and Science. I will be attending Ole Miss to major in Arabic and International Studies with a hopeful minor in Environmental Science. I am a major geek, so Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, anything Disney, I’m always excited to chat about. I’m a major history nerd as well, so I spent my past year serving as a historical ambassador for Mobile as an Azalea Trail Maid and am now a historical guide for the city’s duck boat rides. I’m not actually a 2019 Stamps Scholar, but have instead pushed off my enrollment to 2020 to take a gap year and study Arabic in Morocco. However, I am so excited to meet everyone once I get back and start making memories with this amazing group of scholars!

Hello All! My name is Janeisha Cambridge. I was raised in Georgia but will be attending THE Barry University in Miami, Florida. I plan to study International Business and Marketing. I believe these majors are a great fit for me especially because I have just started an online boutique. I plan to use the knowledge I gain during my time at Barry to help increase the creation of businesses and expansion of companies in low-income areas. I love to dance and play tennis! My favorite book is ”Becoming” by Michelle Obama. If I had to describe my personality I would definitely say that I am the sweet but sassy. I absolutely cannot wait to meet all of you!

Hi y’all! I’m Haley Johnson and I’m from Manistee, Michigan, a really small town on Lake Michigan. I’ll be attending University of Michigan this fall. Right now I’m undecided but am leanings towards a double major in statistics and political science with a concentration on methodology. I basically want to be like the guy who runs FiveThirtyEight and use statistical analysis to track public opinion and predict the outcome of elections. In high school I was a member of the swim team, quiz bowl team, national honor society and forensics (competitive public speaking, not dead bodies). I also play piano and love hiking. I hope to meet you all eventually, go blue!

Hi everyone! I’m Kat Finseth, and I am an incoming freshman at the University of Oregon. I’m originally from Palo Alto, CA, but I now live in Cincinnati. I plan to major in political science and go to law school, so I enjoy nerdy things like mock trial, speech and debate, etc. Outside of all that, I figure skate, hike, and read. I’m super excited for college in general, but I’m especially excited to be a Stamps Scholar!
