Subject: SSNC19 Fall Update | Additional Opportunities for Partner School Involvement

Fellow Scholars and Program Leads,

Now that our summers have drawn to a close, planning for the Stamps Scholars National Convention 2019 is in full motion! We are greatly looking forward to working with all of you over the coming months to design this unique experience, which will take place April 12th-14th, 2019.

From this point forward, key information about SSNC19 will be shared with you via emails, Facebook posts to the Official Stamps Scholars Facebook page, and will also be available on the SSNC19 website upon its anticipated debut in late September or early October. You will receive another note to make you aware of both the official convention website launch and the opening of registration in mid-October. In the meantime, we are excited to announce that a detailed landing page for SSNC19 is now live online, and can be found at ssnc.stampsfoundation.org.

Additionally, we are happy to announce more opportunities for partner schools to own portions of the convention! Similar to our restructured Threads, several Large Group Events will be owned and planned by different Stamps partner schools nationwide! LGE sponsorship provides an excellent opportunity for partner schools to get involved in shaping key components of SSNC19. Applications for partner schools to sponsor Large Group Events are now open. Please read the attached Application Statement form and position descriptions for information on sponsoring each event and how to apply.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to ssnc@stampsscholars.org or Renita Moore at renitamoore@gatech.edu. We look forward to working with you for SSNC19!

 Sincerely,
The SSNC19 Executive Committee

Fellow Stamps Partner School,

Welcome to the planning team for the Stamps Scholars National Convention 2019! We are very excited to be working with your school to plan threads for SSNC19. We were impressed with your proposal and hope you are excited to start this planning process.

Attached to this email, you can find a general timeline of thread activities from now until convention. Additionally, this document contains more details about the different aspects of the convention along with an outline of your responsibilities as a Thread Partner School.

We realize that this semester is almost over; however, we do have a couple things that we would like to get done by the end of this semester. If you could please fill out this form by Wednesday, April 25 to confirm the Thread Leader for your school. This person will be the main point of contact at your school for the thread as we interface with you all throughout the next year. Additionally, in the fall you all will be assigned a Thread Coordinator here at Georgia Tech to help with the planning of logistics or other elements for your thread. Between now and then, Kate Ferencsik and Will Epperson (the Thread Vice-chairs) will be available to answer any questions you have about planning.

One important note is that even though we are asking for you to name a student Thread Leader, the expectation is that the Program Lead for your school will be guiding and assisting the team throughout the entire planning process.

The first deadline in the fall will be a finalized list of the potential speakers for your thread. This summer it may be beneficial to start brainstorming speakers that you would like to come speak as part of your programming. We do ask that you wait to contact speakers until we have provided more information about the process for doing so. If there are any speakers that you feel must be contacted over the summer, please contact us (using the email listed below) and we will discuss the best way to do so.

Finally, we are excited to announce that for SSNC19 we will be connecting the service challenge portion of the convention with threads. For the time being, this should not seriously affect your planning and we will share more details about this connection with you in the fall.

If you have any questions about convention or threads please feel free to reach out to Kate or Will and we look forward to working with you all!

Best,
Kate Ferencsik

Program Leads,

As a quick follow-up reminder, please note that the second round threads applications, like the first round applications, should be submitted by the Program Leads.

Fellow Stamps Scholars and Program Leads,

Fellow Stamps Partner Schools,

We are reaching out to follow up on an email you recently received from us regarding a potential SSNC19 change of date.  After extensively reviewing the options, the SSNC19 Executive Board has decided to move forward with the proposed date change.  Therefore, as you continue to lay the groundwork for your threads, it is important that you know that the new confirmed dates for SSNC19 are April 12th-14th, 2019. We look forward to reading the exciting ideas you have envisioned!

Please direct any questions or concerns to ssnc@stampsscholars.org, viets@gatech.edu, or renitamoore@gatech.edu.

Sincerely,
Ethan Wetherington
SSNC19 Communications Vice Chair

Fellow Stamps Partner Schools,

We know you are hard at work laying out plans for your respective threads, and we greatly anticipate receiving the more in-depth ideas you have envisioned.

At this time, there exists a strong potential that the 2019 Stamps Scholars National Convention will be moved from its current date (April 5th-7th, 2019) to a backup date (April 12th-14th, 2019). Because your threads may involve guests, speakers, and other date-dependent items, we encourage you to be cognizant of this information when planning your thread.

We are actively seeking a verdict on the final date of the convention and will reach out again as soon as we have made a decision.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely,
Ethan Wetherington
SSNC19 Communications Vice Chair

Fellow Stamps Partner School,

Thank you so much for submitting a thread abstract for consideration in SSNC19. We were impressed with your abstracts and would be interested in hearing more about your plans for a thread on “—————-” We believe your thread would serve to reinforce this year’s convention theme: “The Ripple Effect: Empowering an Impact.”

The next step in the process is an in-depth application in which you will present a more concrete idea of the activities, speakers, and goals of the selected thread. This second application for your thread will be due April 16th. We have attached a sample application based on a past thread that outlines the expected content of the second application.

Threads will be an integral part of SSNC19 and will serve as a platform to promote conversation, collaboration, and community between scholars. Your thread has the potential to be a vital part of that process and also serve as a demonstration of your school’s effort and commitment to the national community of Stamps Scholars. We hope that you are as excited as we are about beginning this planning process!

Thank you and looking forward to our future collaboration,

Subject: SSNC19 Threads Application Information

Note: Please excuse us if you are receiving this email for the second time. Unfortunately, the first time it was sent out it did not reach all of the Stamps Scholars and program leads. As a result, the updated deadline will be Monday, March 12th!

 Dear Stamps Community,

Planning for the Stamps Scholars National Convention 2019 is underway, and we need your help! Similar to past conventions, threads will serve as one of the core aspects of SSNC19. The 2019 threads will offer the opportunity for Scholars to delve into specific topics impacting our world by allowing participants to hear from prestigious guest speakers and engage in thought-provoking activities and discussions. Past threads have featured many notable topics, ranging from “Living in an Energy Crisis” to “The Intersection of Art, Music, and Society.”

Based on feedback from SSNC17, each of the eight (8) threads for SSNC19 will be owned and planned by a different Stamps partner school! Assisted by logistics coordinators at Georgia Tech, selected schools will design their own thread from scratch. To begin the process to apply to create and to run a thread at SSNC19, please follow the instructions below.

The proposal for leading a thread is a two-part process. The first round requires that you and your fellow Scholars create a one paragraph abstract outlining the topic, vision and goals for your thread. To avoid duplication, each requesting partner school should submit two unique abstracts for threadsranked in order of preference. A selection committee will review the submissions and reach out to request more concrete proposals for one of the submitted topics. Again, a total of eight schools will be selected to run threads.

The first portion of the application is due March 12, 2018, to ssnc@stampsscholars.org and must be submitted by your school’s program lead. Any questions regarding the process should be directed to ssnc@stampsscholars.org or viets@gatech.edu.

We look forward to receiving your abstracts soon!

Subject: SSNC19 Introduction

Note: The 2019 Stamps Scholars National Convention Date has been changed to April 12-14, 2019

Dear Stamps Scholars community,

While it seems like SSNC17 was just yesterday, the time has come to begin planning another Stamps Scholars National Convention!  For those of you who attended SSNC17, we want to sincerely thank you for your constructive feedback.  Your thoughts have been very helpful in beginning to plan the next convention.  We are pleased to share that April 5th-7th, 2019 has been selected as the date of the Stamps Scholars National Convention 2019!

The Stamps Scholars community is truly one of excellent students and burgeoning leaders.  We all aspire for a convention that showcases our community’s accomplishments, motivates our aspirations and dreams, and even inspires new ones!  Who better to rely on for a successful SSNC19 than those who are to participate in it?  That is where you all, as Stamps Scholars partner schools, come in.  Your school’s unique contributions to a successful SSNC19 are truly invaluable.  Thus, all of our SSNC19 Threads will be spearheaded by Stamps Scholars partner schools nationwide.

Designing and running a Thread at this convention is a wonderful opportunity to showcase an area of expertise from your institution to Stamps Scholars across the country.  In contrast with previous conventions, each Thread will be designed entirely by one Stamps partner school and supported logistically by Georgia Tech.  We won’t go into too much detail now, but we encourage you to be on the lookout for a future email containing information on this newest rendition of Threads and your much-desired participation!

Again, we want to express our immense excitement for what we believe will be a valuable, insightful, and as always, entertaining Stamps Scholars National Convention 2019.  We will be in communication soon regarding more specific aspects of SSNC19.  For now, bundle up and stay warm (unless, of course, you’re in Florida or California).  We’ll be in touch!

Best Regards,
